Eyes On Me, the parent ministry of The Hangar in Brookshire, is one of Kingsland’s most valued local ministry partners. Eyes On Me seeks to transform communities through intentional discipleship, mentorship, and service.

Kingsland’s Missions Ministry has embraced the work of The Hangar in Brookshire—a community where many young people are growing up without a father consistently present in the home. The Hangar responds by surrounding these young people with caring mentors, practical opportunities, and the encouragement they need to build a hopeful future.

In addition to its mentoring, sports, food pantry, and other community programs, The Hangar gives young people an opportunity to learn valuable skills through its trade program. Students receive hands-on instruction in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and other practical trades that can open doors to meaningful and well-paying careers.

Kingsland has been privileged to support this effort by helping remodel the program’s original training space, purchasing tools and supplies, and providing mentors who invest in the students’ lives. As the trade program gained momentum, however, it soon became apparent that its 600-square-foot space was no longer adequate.

In 2024, Kingsland provided funding for the construction of a new 4,000-square-foot facility designed specifically to house and expand the trade program. A significant portion of these funds came through Kingsland’s 2024 Vacation Bible School offering—an investment by our children and families that will help equip young people served by The Hangar for years to come.

Last Saturday, we celebrated the dedication of the new trade-school facility at The Hangar. Ryan Rush, our senior pastor, and I were privileged to participate in the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony. More than a building, this new facility represents opportunity. In this place, young men and women can develop confidence, discover the dignity of meaningful work, and prepare for careers that will enable them to serve their community and provide for their families.

My personal prayer is that the trade school will always be a place where young people are trained to pursue excellence and “work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23). I also pray that those trained at this center will understand that the skills they acquire are not ends in themselves. They are tools God can use to open doors for them to demonstrate His love wherever they live and serve.

I also pray that as each student becomes more competent in their work skills, they will also grow in character. While technical ability is important, qualities like integrity, humility, hard work, and compassion are what will truly set them apart in their respective trades.
