The Savage Path

I listen to several podcasts. Whether I’m making the ten-hour drive to my cabin in Big Bend or simply running errands around town, podcasts are one of my favorite ways to make the time I spend behind the wheel more enjoyable.

One of my favorites is Wrestling With The Inner Man, hosted by my friend and fellow Kingsland member, David Savage. David launched this podcast a few years ago with a passion for helping men become better husbands, fathers, leaders, and followers of Christ. His heart is to encourage men to wrestle honestly with the issues that shape their lives and to pursue biblical manhood with courage and integrity. You can learn more about David and his ministry by visiting The Savage Path.

In honor of Father’s Day, David has put together a special week of conversations featuring four outstanding guests. One episode has already aired—and if you haven’t listened to it yet, I highly recommend it. It is well worth your time. Here’s how David introduced this week’s lineup in his newsletter:

In this special series of conversations, we explore the challenges and opportunities that shape a man’s life as a father, son, and spiritual leader. From the hidden grief many men carry after abortion loss, to overcoming father wounds and discovering long-buried family connections, these stories reveal how healing begins when men step out of isolation and into truth.

You’ll hear practical wisdom on forgiveness, reconciliation, and intentional fatherhood, along with inspiring examples of men who transformed pain into purpose.

We also examine the importance of guiding the next generation through meaningful rites of passage, equipping parents with practical tools to build strong relationships, resilient faith, and lasting family legacies.

Whether you’re working through your own story or investing in the lives of your children and grandchildren, these conversations offer hope, encouragement, and a roadmap for becoming the man—and father—God has called you to be.

Here is a summary of the special Father’s Day episodes:

The Forgotten Grief of Fathers | 12 June Episode
Greg Mayo, award-winning author of Almost Daddy: The Forgotten Story explains why he chose to write a novel instead of a memoir, and how story can disarm politics long enough for real empathy and spiritual healing to begin.

When a DNA Test Changes Everything | 15 June
Rick Wertz, the founder and president of Faithful Fathering, describes how a single email during COVID turned into a paternity test, a flight to an empty LAX, and a face-to-face meeting with a 46-year-old son he never knew existed.

What If Dad Really is Destiny | 19 June
A lot of men carry a quiet ache they can’t quite name, then spend decades trying to outrun it with work, wins, and willpower. It is known as the father wound, the craving for approval, and the lifelong impact of a dad who is physically present but emotionally absent. A moment from Robert Lewis’ Better Man teaching forces Buddy Griffin to face one brutal question: will he someday stand at a casket with everything still unresolved?

A Dad’s Right of Passage | 21 June

A kid doesn’t need a perfect dad, but they do need a present one, and the window to shape a heart doesn’t stay soft forever. If you’ve ever looked at middle school years and thought, I don’t have the tools for this, you’re not alone. We sit down with Matt Hanson, president of the National Rite of Passage Council, to talk about Aion Path, a three-year Christian rite of passage built for 12 to 14 year olds and the fathers who walk beside them.

I’m thankful for David and his passion for supporting fathers. I hope you’ll listen to these conversations and think about adding Wrestling With The Inner Man to your regular podcast list. I believe you’ll find encouragement, challenge, and practical help to become the man God wants you to be.
